Came with coworkers for a teambuilding activity and had a BLAST! Our instructor, Bahar, was super friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and she made sure everyone had a chance to demonstrate the skills they learned. Overall great experience, will definitely return!
Journey Culinary was absolutely fantastic. Jay and his team exceeded our expectations. He taught our family all about Peruvian cuisine and what foods are available - and where! I had no idea Peru had so much ecological diversity. We cannot wait to take another class.
This was advertised as a cooking class. It was not a cooking class.
We prepaid a month in advance and left voicemails because we never received any follow up information. When we arrived on the day of the class, the staff appeared genuinely surprised to see us. From the start, nothing felt normal.
For over two and a half hours, we watched the chef struggle with extremely basic tasks. Pasta dough alone took well over an hour, and by that point we were already more than forty minutes past the scheduled end time. In that entire time, we ate three leaves of endive. We did not cook a single thing. The only hands on task we were given was mincing oregano.
The chef appeared overwhelmed and stressed and began dumping vegetable oil into the food because he could not get the dough right. Ingredients were cheap and poorly handled. Produce was wilted and not washed. The salt and pepper were clearly low quality. Ingredients were being delivered in the middle of the class from King Soopers. Dishes were stacked everywhere.
To make things even stranger, the owners were sitting in the class, interrupting, questioning, and telling the chef how to cook. We did not even realize they were the owners at first because of how disorganized everything was.
Eventually we were hungry, uncomfortable, and decided to leave. That is when the situation became completely unhinged.
As we walked out, the owner ran after us demanding payment, despite the fact that we had already paid in full a month earlier. We showed proof. He claimed it was a clerical error on their end and then demanded my fiancée stand outside in ten degree weather while he waited for an email to arrive.
When we refused and said we were leaving, his behavior escalated. He began using threatening, legal sounding language about private property, physically stepped in front of us, and attempted to block us from leaving. He then pulled out his phone and called the police, loudly claiming there was a major emergency.
There was no emergency. We had paid. We were leaving. That was it.
I have been cooking for twenty years and this was meant to be a fun date night. Instead it was chaotic, embarrassing, and genuinely unsettling. Other patrons were clearly irritated and embarrassed as well.
This is not a cooking class. Whatever is happening here is deeply disorganized and concerning. Avoid.
