Ice Centre at the Promenade / Hyland Hills Hockey Association

Our family has been part of the Hyland family for over 10 years now. Both of my boys have loved the instruction, the coaches and most of all, their hockey family. We were lucky to have found such a great association. Our hockey director, the coaches, the staff, and the entire community of volunteers all put together is what makes our association so unique and welcoming.

This organization tolerates trash teams. In the 2024 Pikes Peak, a tournament dedicated to sportsmanship, the Jaguars 10U Rec Orange team wins a game 17-0, while celebrating every goal like they just won the Stanley Cup. Other classless behavior in the rest of the games they played. Coaches are supposed to be examples to their kids. These coaches are shameful, and the organization that tolerates those coaches is likewise shameful. If you care about your kids growing up to be decent human beings, keep them far away from here.

Why should our kids participate in sports and why should parents spend a lot of money to support their activities? We do that because we wanted our kids to learn teamwork, fairness, tolerance, discipline, and camaraderie. But this hockey association and especially leadership of the peawee AA teams do not seem to promote these good values. Several players of this team constantly hit others, swore, and yelled in the locker room. But these players never got punishment because their parents are coaches. The coaches rudely yelled to players but did not teach them any important values of sportsmanship. On 11/16/2021, the team had up to 12 penalties in a game with one player viciously holding two ends of the hockey stick hitting the back head of a team member of the opponent team. The coach did not make any comment. The parents were routing for the offender. When the referee asked the player to be off the ice, the parents were clamoring profusely to the referee. What examples they want to give to the young players? How can you trust your kids with coaches and organization like this?

HHHA Rocks! It's great to see the leadership of this association take an active role and getting out there on the ice as much as possible. I can't tell you how many times I've seen Tyson or Doug pop out on the ice with a team even if it's for 10-15 minutes. Tyson is committed to the growth of each player individually, not just the association. We have an amazing group of volunteers who happily help out and parent coaches who are willing to coach teams that their kids are not even on - it's amazing. HHHA is a family.....and one that we are proud to be a part of.

My 2 children were very successful being a part of the Y Jr Buffs program. When the Y merged with Boulder Hockey, we chose Hyland. We were welcome with open arms at Hyland during a tough transition for my kids. Last year both of my kids had success at Hyland and we have already registered for another season there.
