Eldora Mountain Resort

We visited Eldora on March 4, 2026 for a midweek ski day with my twin 8-year-old boys. This was only their second or third time skiing, and overall we had a fantastic day. Eldora has a lot going for it—especially for Front Range families—but there are a few operational issues that made the start and end of our visit more frustrating than they should have been. One of the main reasons we chose Eldora is location and accessibility. We live in Erie, and the drive was under an hour. Just as important, it lets you avoid the I-70 traffic that comes with many other Colorado resorts. For families trying to squeeze in a midweek ski day with kids, that convenience is huge. Parking was also a big plus. Eldora offers a close-in HOV parking lot for vehicles with three or more people, which made unloading gear with kids much easier. We happened to hit a perfect bluebird day—sunny skies, light wind, and temperatures pushing 50°F. Snow coverage this season hasn’t been amazing, but conditions were perfectly fine for beginner skiing. Once we got onto the mountain, the experience was excellent. Lift operators were friendly, ski patrol was attentive, and lift lines were short all day. The terrain was perfect for kids progressing from green runs to blue runs, and my boys improved so much that by lunchtime we were skiing blues together. One lift operator in particular—Pete from Erie—stood out as especially friendly and welcoming every time we came through his lift. The biggest challenge was base-area logistics, specifically the lack of a clear place for families to put on gear or change. We rented equipment onsite for convenience, which came at a premium cost. The rental staff were polite, but there was very little guidance provided, especially for guests unfamiliar with the layout. Because the upstairs lodge area was closed for a private event that day, we were repeatedly redirected around the building trying to find somewhere to get our boots, helmets, and gear organized. Having two kids in tow made this especially frustrating. At one point we were told to use one staircase, then told we couldn’t be there, then moved to another location. The staff weren’t rude—it just seemed like there was no clear process or designated space for guests to gear up. Later in the day when we were changing out of ski gear, we actually ended up sitting on the floor of the retail shop because there were no benches, lockers, or staging areas available. That seems like a fairly simple operational improvement that would make a big difference, especially for families with kids. Lunch was fine for ski-resort food, though indoor staff seemed less engaged compared to the excellent lift operators and ski patrol outside. Despite those issues, we still had a fantastic family ski day. Eldora’s proximity to Boulder County and the Front Range, along with its beginner-friendly terrain, make it a great option for families. With some improvements to base-area seating, lockers, and clearer guidance for rental guests, this could easily be a five-star experience. We look forward to coming back again soon.

The mountain is small, but it feels very welcoming. The village is small, but it hosts various events in the winter. The skiing is great, nonetheless. Some ski lifts have lines, but those are not too long. It was a very nice visit.

The Nordic staff are great, but the administration keeps showing a lack of respect for the Nordic community. Yes, there has been little snow this year—nature is nature. No complaints about that. But when snow finally came, the trails were still not groomed. I paid for a season pass and can’t ski even last weeks of unusually short winter. I buy a season pass to ski on proper tracks, not in ungroomed forest. This is not just disappointing 💔💔💔—it feels like a slap in the face to people who love cross-country skiing and support Eldora every year. No snow is understandable. Snow with no grooming is not. They groomed 200 meters with a rotating barrel from the entrance to the stadium — and that’s it! Is it proper trail? Is this all we deserve? Please take Nordic skiers seriously and groom the trails when conditions allow. We deserve better.

I was in Boulder for training so I decided to hit Eldora while I was in the area. It was the first time skiing here. I had a great time, even with the lack of snow for the season. I left pretty early to make it before the lifts began operating. Even then I ran into so traffic along the way. Coming from Boulder, it looks like everyone takes Canyon Road to Eldora. I rented equipment from the lodge. The process was very quick and employees were helpful. They use RFID cards, which were simple to get from the machines. The card readers also seemed to scan better than other resorts I have visited. The mountain had a significant amount of blues and black runs but seemed to lack a proportional amount of green runs. The blues and black runs were not overly challenging though. However, something to keep in mind if you are new to skiing. The prices for food items are pretty steep. I was charged over $5 for a can of soda. However, I had the Buffalo chili and it was better than I expected and a decent portion. If you are staying until the end of the day, expect traffic going back. I would recommend waiting it out in Nederland for a bit. The city has some cool shops and nice restaurants to allow the traffic to clear.

The Pearl of the Rockies - Eldora is a sweet little local mountain with fun and diverse terrain for all skill levels. Great for families and rippers alike, a quick ride up Boulder Canyon from downtown and you are at the epicenter of over 1000 vertical feet and 700 acres of mountain to explore. Nestled between the Indian Peaks Wilderness and the James Peak Wilderness, Eldora has 360° views of both from atop the Lookout restaurant on Bryan Mountain. At the base, the Indian Peaks Lodge boasts all the amenities including high-end outerwear, hard goods and accessories plus a bona fide rental and demo fleet; Timbers and the West Wing roll out the food and beverage in a fun and casual setting; and the Caribou Lodge has sit-down table service. On mountain you can rip some hot laps on the Alpenglow, uphill 3 routes, ski the extensive Jenny Creek nordic trails and participate in private or group lessons with the ski and snowboard school. For the up-and-coming, push your limits with the racing program or sharpen your sword in the Woodward terrain park while thrill-seekers and pow hounds will relish the extreme terrain and glades off Westridge. It’s business up front and a party in the back for the closest ski resort to Boulder!
