Colorado Shakespeare Festival

Have seen many plays at the outdoor theater, now, and it has always been an amazing experience. The sets are beautifully made and the costumes are well done. The performers do an excellent job of immersing the audience in the experience.

I waited patiently for years for the reopening of the Mary Rippon outdoor theater after its renovations. Upon returning, I find they completely ruined the venue by cutting down most of the trees in the courtyard and hardscaping the area instead. It no longer feels like a secluded, fantastical courtyard and is now just Another Campus Building (derogatory). The plays used to be excellent, but they have overall declined over the last decade. They are getting a bit TOO creative now with settings and such. They also keep incorporating musical numbers which, although the performers are talented, are completely unnecessary and very distracting from the plots. By the second half of the play I was rolling my eyes every time he picked up his mandolin. I expect a PLAY when I buy tickets for Shakespeare, not a musical. I used to really enjoy CSF, and especially the outdoor theater, but I’m not sure I’ll bother coming again in the future…

We’ve been to about 8 plays here. Not a bad seat in the house. Classy group of actors. Always first rate. Love it here. One of my favorite Colorado activities.

We watched Julius Caesar performed inside the comfy and remodeled theater on campus- not a bad seat in the theater. Amazing performance with star quality acting.

Great venue, though it can be a challenge to find it. Performance was excellent. They provide soft seats so you don't have to sit on stone.
